Greetings,

More inspiration has followed as I pulled an all-nighter and flip
flopped my sleeping schedule. I was driving from the gym and had
this melody and some lyrics come to mind "I wrote a song today to
put me in a good mood". I hope you might share it with someone

The stage or band name I am going by lately is "Branded

It is nice to try new songs out at open mic nights, and have
found a good listening audience at Tracey's Corner Cafe in
Warren, Michigan. Open mic is every Sunday and Tuesday. However,
I am not sure if I will be able to stay up to play there tonight!

Greetings,

Hello! Well, I'm still writing songs, working on my music
business (3000 Records) and traveling right now. Currently, my
wife and I are in St. Augustine, Florida.

We have been busy building up our YouTube channel. We now have
over 1000 videos and will be filming in downtown St. Augustine
this week. The videos we make are often about local small
businesses, like restaurants, stores, etc. We also talk about the
cities we visit, and share our thoughts. Our channel also has
some other videos, like the one of my nephew pulling his tooth
with a Nerf gun, and a string!

Our channel is called "Bowling For Donuts"! We have decided to

My first newsletter in a long long time...

Greetings,

I just finished a show in Charleston, South Carolina at a little
coffee shop called City Lights Cafe. Getting feedback on new
songs has been valuable since many of my songs end up back in the
recycle bin.. some make it beyond that for potential future
recordings.

One of my newer songs called "Me and You and a Cadillac" seems
to be one of those songs that will be recorded. I've played it
from Detroit to Nashville, to South Carolina, to Florida...
That song seems to light up the room, and people react to it.
At an open mic in Nashville, a bar manager walked up to the
stage and started cheering (during the song)! That was after 40
other Musicians already played at the open mic night! Nashville
is a tough town for a Musician to stand out amongst the many
Musicians trying to "make it"!

The whole idea of "making it" is more about an attitude and
just being yourself, than anything else. In other words.. a
copy cat Musician may be able to earn some money playing cover
gigs, but the chances of going beyond that are even more slim
for someone who just does their own thing.

I know it has been a long time since writing a newsletter! Since
you last heard from me I have expanded my song list, and also
been working like crazy on my indie record label / music
promotion company called "3000 Records". The social networks
like Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook have really taken things to
another level.

Still, I've been watching the everyday issues like our economy
and feeling concerned over just how screwed up the economy is..
Priorities are backwards. America was never meant to be in debt
to other nations like China. The paper money we spend every day
is only as valuable as people believe it to be.

My wife and I will be staying in Charleston until Friday before
heading to Myrtle Beach. It's nice to be in 60 degree weather
this time of year. I know it's darn cold up in Michigan.

As you may have seen, my "stage name" has been a work in
progress. My dad told me once that he intended for the spelling
of my first name to be "Terence" but the nurses put the wrong
spelling on my birth certificate "Terrance". Anyways, I thought
to possibly use that spelling as my stage name.. along with the
last name "Holiday" which is a change up from "Terrance Day".
While it's not "official" I am leaning in that direction waiting
for more confirmation over time.

Something New And Exciting!

Recently I developed a new web site and business. Creating new
streams of income has been crucial in me keeping bills paid!
Being a Musician has not been my main income since 2006! I'm
fine with that. Creating good music and playing shows doesn't
need to be about money.

Music History Is Being Made Today in Ferndale, MI (No Joke!)

Hello. Many of you know about my effort to make music history to
sell a million CDs as an independent Artist. Selling CDs became
more and more difficult as most people don't buy CDs anymore!

However, I am finally getting to be part of something that is
literally making music history. The world's longest running
music concert "Assembly Line II" is happening right now in
Ferndale, Michigan. The concert has been going non-stop for 308
hours as I write this.

Today at 4PM I will be performing during the 312th hour, and the
concert will end after the 313th hour. You can watch the event

Hello. I am personally sending this message to you after this health care bill has passed by our government, despite constitutional law, and despite your personal freedoms in our Country.

Due to a Major lack of information from Media and other sources, Please be fully aware NOW that this since this bill has passed you will have a new bill to pay for health care soon (whether you have health care or not). This payment will be ongoing for the rest of your life, and it will be due by each given deadline. If you do not pay it, you will be fined and/or jailed. No joke. This is what is happening in our country right now, today. Isn't it time to take a stand?

In addition, there is another life and death issue regarding abortion which will be publicly funded with this bill ..and this murder will happen using Your money whether you agree to it or not.

As Americans we should not be afraid to speak out and stand for what we believe in, and discover to be true. As a nation, if we do not use our freedom, then I do not see how we will be able to keep it. I realize not all of you may appreciate my email, but I am open to your response (good or bad).

P.S. I found this person's comments in an online forum about health care.. and thought I would pass this along (see below).

Have you even read this bill HR3590 (over 2000 pages)? I have and after I read what's available online (WhiteHouse.gov), I went out and changed my voter registration from Democrat to Republican. Do you totally dismiss that there is language in this bill that makes it a crime to not purchase health insurance? A person could be fined up to $5,000; I don't know about you, but that's unconstitutional. Citizens shouldn't be FORCED into buying insurance. Also, it eliminates Medicare Part D altogether, strips Medicare Advantage of $177 billion and Medicare of $465 billion.
There ARE ways to fix problems in health care without this monstrosity. Have you looked at the Republican bill (only 38 pages)? I doubt it but if you do, it's at GOP.gov and WhiteHouse.gov. They've introduced three of them to Obama last year and he rejected each one; tell me he's NOT an ideologue. The Republican bill is less invasive, wont increase taxes and wont strip other programs.
As for the description of "right wing" as idiots, I find that remark ignorant. Go do some real research for yourself! The far left are serious ideologues. They want to change this country to a socialized nation.
If you want to find out how that type of country works, read a study (available online) published in October by two Harvard economists, Alberto Alesina and Silvia Ardagna.
If you'd care to learn about our country's history and the wisdom of our founders, read a book called, "The 5000 Year Leap", which will explain our founders intentions using the Federalist Papers and other writings. I'm guessing you wont read any of them because you'd rather believe the tripe that Obama and his ilk are spewing.
Look up for yourself about the REAL profits insurance companies make and that 60% of them are non-profit. Learn that Medicare (socialized medicine)denies 77% of their claims while the insurance industry denies only 15%. Look up that in other countries that have socialized medicine, citizens pay 50% or more in taxes to support the below standard care. Why did the Premier of Newfoundland go to Florida to have a cardiac procedure when he could have traveled to a neighboring province?
Look up this information that you wont get from most radio or television news. THINK FOR YOURSELF and discover that the Democrats don't have a monopoly on morality.
Read that Thomas Jefferson said it's immoral to leave debt to our children. Do you understand the amount of debt this country is in?
How about that "stimulus bill", have you looked up the REAL story on that? Billions of wasted tax dollars in EVERY state. They falsified over 40 congressional districts which they claimed received funds! How's THAT for your so-called transparent-hope and change president!
I wouldn't advise accusing me of racism because my husband and I are now both conservatives and he is black. Everyone in his family have changed their opinions on Obama and their political affiliation.
Go research, find out what I have and maybe you'll understand why there is such opposition.

I'm still writing new songs, and as of recently recorded some videos up close and personal (See below). The videos are just me and my guitar.

I've been taking time to just stay healthy with the flu going around. Plenty of sleep, a good diet, and drinking plenty of Acai berry juice seems to be working very well. No experimental flu shot needed ..no thanks.

Right now I'm writing from Boyne Falls, MI and have been spending a good amount of time "up north" in Michigan lately. This is a nice place to be, especially with the changing leaves.

Terrance Day Newsletter - Last one

Greetings,

Starting last August 2008, my wife and I started traveling
and continued to travel until just 3 weeks ago. We were
on the road for a total of 10 months. The trips we took
were often in a big circle from Detroit to Pennsylvania, to
Viginia, South Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Indiana.. and
back to Detroit.

Overall, the experience was very good. I played at many
places, sold some CDs, and met countless people. Many of
them are on this email list!

One of the cool things I should mention is that we were able
to travel and stay in great places (mostly resorts) for
under the monthly cost of staying in an $800 apartment.
We stayed in places right on the ocean, in the mountains,
and other great locations. Most places had a full kitchen so
we also cooked our own meals most of the time. That is a
great money saver. I'm also greatful for the friends
who offered us a place to stay from time to time.

A friend of mine suggested that I write a book about how to
travel on such a budget. I certainly could because of
everything I have learned. I'll just say it takes some out
of the box thinking.

One of the best things I got out of so much traveling is
a whole new perspective on Michigan, my career, family, and
direction. I also had much inspiration to write songs that
I will look forward to sharing with others during upcoming
performances.

This is the last "Terrance Day" newsletter since I'm going
to be going by an alias name from now on. It's not something
that I want to write about.. but you will get an update
about this soon.

Life is too short to over-think, be inactive, or wait around
for things to happen. I think that it's time to take some
action steps, make some more plans.. There's no point in
talking Big. I just wanna keep doing what I'm doing, but
keep on doing it a little better.

It's nice to be back in Michigan for the summer.

Greetings,

It's nice to know that the summer will be here soon. The
Winter has been long. Right now we are in Florida, and the
weather is just right.. 85 degres, nice soft breeze, clear
skies and sunny.

Tomorrow I have a gig at a Blues Bar called "Lou's Blues"
from 2PM to 6PM on their patio. It's great to have gigs
while traveling but they don't come easy, or often enough.

On the road, coffee shops are the consistant thing that
connect the dots from city to city. Coffee and wireless
internet go good together.

Well, the tour continues and we're going on month number 10.
This summer we are looking forward to staying in Michigan for
June and July! I hope you will visit my calendar online from
time to time and come out to a gig. My newest songs are the
greatest songs I have ever written. If you come to a gig at
Colosanti's (Highland, MI), you can do your grocery shopping
while listening to me play over their PA system :)

Terrance Day Newsletter - Winter Part 2

Greetings,

It's good to be back in Michigan. I could complain about
plenty of things, but it would be petty stuff. I have a
nice schedule of gigs that I'm thankful for. For starters,
I'm thankful to be a Musician. Regardless of the economy
or attitude in Metro Detroit I still can write songs. As
long as I keep doing what I do it can build momentum
towards greater achievements.

Being in Metro Detroit feels like a giant college campus.
Most people are pinching penny's (like college students),
and trying to figure out what to do with their lives. We're
all still learning, preparing for the future, and wondering
what the future will be like.

Back in college at Western Michigan University, I was
singing in a rock band. I started a record label, and was
writing songs. After graduation, when I got a very good
position in a corporate job, I got fired because I couldn't
stay awake during a meeting. That's why I'm not working a
regular job. That incident put me on a completely different
path towards a simpler life. However, that doesn't mean
things are always easier. I'm just not afraid of getting
fired anymore. I know who the boss is (hint: it's not me).

Everyone has their own choices to make. Some just give too
much of their power to someone else. I guess that is why I
don't like any government, companies, or person having too
much power over anyone else.

I wrote a new song recently and thought I'd share the
lyrics with you. Some of you might connect with this
in a personal way. It took me about 12 or 13 years to get
these words out.

Greetings,

Hello! It's been awhile since I last sent out a newsletter.
Usually I don't like to write unless I actually have
something to talk about...

The Holiday season was comforting to be back in Michigan
through December. I spent that time making an effort to not
stress about anything. This means not worrying about the
economy, etc..

Michigan is such a great place. My wife and I have been
traveling the country, and there is no place quite like
Michigan. However, I hear people saying bad things about
Michigan, but it seems they base their opinion on the
economy, or the media. People can make the economy an
excuse to be miserable. Well, nobody needs an excuse for
that. It comes down to a choice. If life is all about money,
well, you will probably be miserable (rich or not).

While I was back home I had few gigs, and especially enjoyed
sharing some of my new songs. I have played at Colosanti's
fruit market (in Higland, MI), and a restaurant called
Cranberrie's Cafe, and Raven Cafe in downtown Port Huron.
These are all independent Michigan businesses. However,
non-Michigan based business locations like Walmart do not
hire Musician's to play at their locations. Most corporate
chains and places like Walmart could care less about a
Musician like me... Walmart also does not seem to care about
the Michigan economy. Remember, every dollar you spend is
like a vote. Are you voting for Michigan? Support local
independent business.

Right now I'm in South Carolina and just booked a last
minute gig for tomorrow night at "Wild Wing" in Myrtle Beach.
After this weekend my wife and I will be heading further
south to Florida. You can see my current show schedule

I have been writing many new songs, and have been very
inspired as I travel the country. One of my new songs is a
song called "The Rodeo". My next album will be more Country
sounding than the last.

Terrance Day Newsletter - November 2008

Greetings,

Being in Florida for most of September and part of October
was very hot, and really seemed to extend the summer. This
week I was in Pennsylvania and there was almost a foot of
snow not too far from the city we stayed in!

Last weekend I had the privilege of leading praise and
worship at a lovely church in Emporium, Pennsylvania. My
wife also sang with me. It's great to visit some good
friends here.

Three weeks ago I had an opportunity to speak and play some
songs in front of about 200 kids at a grade school in Nassau,
Bahamas. The topic was Jesus. Afterwords, the teachers were
telling my wife how they felt very sorry for the schools in
the United States where God is not welcome.

We were part of a mission trip called "A Cruise With A
Cause" that went in groups to every school on the island
talk about God. That evening there was a concert on the
island where thousands attended to hear the Gospel along
with great music. God does amazing things when welcomed!
Overall, the group witnessed to over 10,000 people who gave
their lives to Christ. The Bahamas has been greatly blessed.

On the drive home I had a gig at a little restaurant called
Stinky's Fish Camp. Some new friends of ours also came out!
They welcomed us into their home for the evening. It's
really nice to have unexpected blessings during this
adventure or "tour".

Coming home to Michigan for about a week was great! I
enjoyed the weather there, and got to do some yard work.
The fall season is such a beautiful time to be in Michigan.

On Friday I spoke to a college class at Messiah College in
Grantham, Pennsylvania! The topic was "How To Survive
As An Independent Musician"! I also played some songs for
the class. The teacher, Ed is a great guy who treated my
wife and I to lunch, and a gas card from "Sheetz"! He also
bought 35 copies of my CD for the students in his class.
It was a beautiful day to visit the college campus. I really
like visiting college campuses and feel energized being in
that environment.

While traveling I have taken some time to write some new
songs. I hope that these songs are songs that will end up
on a new album. Right now I am uncertain how I might be
able to record again without a budget to do so. This is
one of my favorite lyrics I've written in awhile. It's part
of a new song called "Daytona".

Terrance Day Newsletter - October 2008

Greetings,

Welcome to October. What a great month as the season quickly
changes. Right now I'm in Florida so the season here is
still like summer in Michigan. For the past three weeks I've
been playing shows, and booking future dates at locations
throughout Florida and other states. It has also been nice
to meet many nice people here who have been very welcoming.

When I first started planning this tour it seemed my wife
and I would travel until early February. I've been
organizing the schedule, and making quite a few
arrangements. After some more planning, it looks like this
tour is going to go longer than expected. This tour will
continue until next June and consist mostly of shows along
the east coast from New Jersey on down to Florida.

During the week of October 12 I'll be back in Michigan for
one week to play 4 shows including dates in Goodrich,
Port Huron, Milford, and Utica! I'm looking forward to some
Michigan fall weather.

In addition to playing my music, I'm going to have the
opportunity to be a guest speaker on two occasions so far.
I'll be speaking to a class (and playing a few songs) at
Messiah College in Pennsylvania next month, and Sandilands
Primary School in the Bahamas next week. This is not
something I thought I'd be doing. However, this is something
that will fit very well with my goal to have a positive
impact on people I meet. In addition, I was a also a
Communications Major in college which is a great major for
learning how to get up in front of people and speak. I have
heard that the fear of public speaking ranks up there with
the fear of death.

One thing I have learned more about recently is to do things
in life that you may not feel confident about. Instead of
"feeeeeling confident", you can gain confidence and momentum
as you go. This goes along with my other opinion that in
order to move ahead with career goals you need to step
forward even if it's dark up ahead. Usually you can at least
see a few feet ahead of you. This is exactly why at some
point moving forward with small or bigger decisions is not
based on being "too sure". You can never be "too sure". To
me, it's more about having some faith and doing what is
good.

Terrance Day Newsletter - September 2008

Greetings,

It's been a long time since I sat down to write a full
newsletter to those of you who "stay tuned". Since my album
was first released, I feel that I have not been pushing this
CD as hard as I could have.. yet I have become much more
motivated lately. I'm not exactly sure where the motivation
is coming from, but I have been reading a great book by
Zig Zigler lately.

As I have been working on new songs, I see the long road
ahead for recording another album. I am thankful to have
at least one full length CD currently available. Sales from
my album "A Simple Life" continue to trickle in... only now
it's available on iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody, and a few other
places online. It's also still available on my own site MakeMusicHistory.com. I have recently stocked up on copies
to have available during all live performances. The goal...
still 1,000,000 sales.

..and why not set a high sales goal? I can't think of any
reasons other than feeling some disappointment if this goal
is never reached. However, wouldn't it be more disappointing
to not set the goal in the first place? Also, will I at
least sell more albums just by setting a high sales goal?
Even 1 percent of my goal would be 10,000 sales. I have read
about people who have done some amazing things... sometimes
they look back and wonder why they didn't set an even bigger
goal to begin with.

After many months of planning... the tour I have been
praying about is coming together. September 7 starts this
big tour as we head to Tennessee and then Florida throughout
September and early October. Then we're off to the "Cruise
With A Cause" where I'll be part of a music showcase during
the cruise, and then play for children at a school in the
Bahamas.

The tour will continue through June 2009 and will include
shows in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and hopefully New York, New
Jersey, South Carolina, Georgia, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin,
Missouri, Minnesota, Indiana, and Illinois. I'll also be
playing throughout Michigan.

I am bringing plenty of CDs to sell, and also selling the
album on flash drives (which includes a digital copy of the
album as MP3s, plus some extras).

My wife and I are excited and a bit stressed at the same
time as we prepare to leave very soon. However, this weekend
before we leave, we are going to be DJing a wedding! Being
a DJ has been a great way to keep busy when I did not have
many performance gigs lined up.

In time I hope to come much closer to my CD sales goal, make
many new fans, and eventually record again. Everything seems
to come together step by step, and no other way. If I do not
keep putting one foot in front of the other, moving forward
would seem impossible... and so I will do what is possible.

Hi there. Well, it's been awhile but I wanted to write to say that musically I am doing very well. I've been finding a balance or harmony in my life that has been helpful in writing some new music. Considering that my "new" CD has music I wrote in 2003, there is a big difference in the music I am writing today!

Well, it's been a whole month already? I guess so huh! Anyways, I've got some nice updates on my web site including some new photos! My mom found a really neat photo of me and my Mickey "MouseGetar" from when I was like 4, and another photo of me and a different guitar from when I was about 16. Well, as of today I am driving a 1999 Dodge Durango SLT. I will put a picture of it online sometime this month. This SUV is really like a dream come true for me, and I really wanted this particular vehicle. It suits me well, and has enough room for touring, my equipment, and even for sleeping in it! Incredibly, my Uncle Ricky said yes when I asked him to sign for it since my credit sucks (no proof of income). This is the same Uncle who mentioned I should get a "real" job about a half a year ago. I talk to him often about what I actually do for a living, how hard I've been working, and I guess his view changed. My whole family really likes this vehicle, and my Grandpa especially seemed to like it. We went for a drive today right after I picked it up with my Uncle. My little brother Joe said "hey now you don't have to try to make the windows go down (for ventilation)" (since the Superwagon's windows didn't work often). I remember driving through Texas without being able to get the windows down one afternoon. It was probably 120 (or more) degrees in the car. Fortunately I had some bottled water to replenish myself from sweating buckets.

Unfortunately, no credit, and no health insurance has been a lovely benefit of being a career Musician thus far. Fortunately, I will be setting up a business as a Sole Proprietor within the next few months. That will not only prove an income, but also straighten out my credit issues. Only about 1/3 of my income can be proven at this point. Regardless, my Uncle's credit is flawless so I got an amazing interest rate on my new truck. After 3 months of going to dealers I believe this vehicle is absolutely the right one, and can't imagine a better one. I've been extremely picky. I can't tell you how I prayed for a nice vehicle and this is way nicer that I could have asked for.

Often people tell me that I must meet many women being a Musician (even my Therapist asked this). LOL. Yeah, uh sure. It's quite ironic in many ways. I go to church and try to meet a nice girl (and couldn't even get a dance at a Valentine's Day church event), then I play gigs at bars, and once in awhile have an offer for something much more than a dance. I find two extremes. Then there's the many female "friends" I have. I don't need any more of those, ahhhHHhhhh. As I mention in my Biography on my web site, a Musician is not "dating" or "marriage" material, like an Engineer (for example). Regardless, I like to think that when the right person comes along things will just happen naturally.. So recently I've ventured onto just about every dating site there is and spent like $70 bucks this month in different memberships. Here's the rundown… Yahoo Personals is decent, didn't like Emode, didn't like Christian Café, and Match.com seems to be actually a great site. So far I had one girl write me back this week. She so eloquently invited me to visit her porn site and pay $$ to see her photos since she was soooooo interested in me. Sure.. Right! I kept my credit card in my pants among other things.

For those of you that did your taxes through my new web site ReadyFile.com I greatly appreciate that. Overall 174 people Efiled through the web site.. so it turned out to be a neat business experiment. Next year, I won't make as many mistakes though. I spent too much on advertising. Still, I am looking forward to getting a check from the company I partnered with called FileSafe.net, however I didn't even break even. No big deal though.

Well, I got a band's music on a sports related episode on Fox Sports Network through my Indie Label 3000 Records! They participated on one of the compilations I organized called "Buzz Songs Vol. 1" and their band name is "Brand New Low". I'll be featuring them on the home page of www.3000records.com later this week. By the way they also got some nice $$$$ out of the deal. I met with the lead singer at Starbucks last week and he was pretty excited about the opportunity.

I recently had an really neat interview on a radio show called "Independent Nation". Their station is based online and you can hear the interview on their show linked from www.newartistradio.net Just click the link that says "Independent Nation". My interview takes place about 35 minutes into the show, and I think it lasts for about 3 or 4 minutes. They wanted to know about "Sara Ann In California". The guys who host the show are goofballs man. LOL. Check it out if you want!

Lately I've been going over ideas and plans for my tour. So far, I intend on touring from November 2004 to April 2005. This will be right around the time my first full length CD is released. I'm taking things step by step though. Keeping my focus on my local gigs is going to be important of course. I want to stay very busy, like I have been.
*On May 29th I will be playing at xhedos Café. If you have never been there I'll mention that it is a small venue with a big sound system. It's perfect if you like coffee houses and live music. A band called Collision Six (www.collisionsix.com) will also be playing. Hopefully Elise McCoy will open the show, but I need to get in touch with her somehow. Elise is an incredibly talented girl I once saw perform at Trixies Coffee House in Roseville.

**I'm playing another cool show on June 4th. I will be headlining at Club 5529 in Clarkston. This will be one of the best opportunities to hear my newest music in a larger concert environment. There should be a great crowd there, but this is also the kind of place where people really watch the performers (unlike some bars).

***I'm also hosting a brand new open mic every Tuesday at Pub 13 in Ypsilanti. The pub is right by Eastern Michigan University and it's a great place for an open mic. Unfortunately my other Tuesday Open Mic was cancelled, but I am super happy that I found a replacement gig for Tuesdays (and better paying, much better). I've also got some gigs coming up in Ann Arbor, and Royal Oak. Check out the calendar when you get a moment.. www.calendar.deron5l.com

Greetings, Hi there. Well, it's been awhile but I wanted to write to say that musically I am doing very well. I've been finding a balance or harmony in my life that has been helpful in writing some new music. Considering that my "new" CD has music I wrote in 2003, there is a big difference in the music I am writing today! This summer has been great weather here in Michigan. What a great time to enjoy the outdoors! I hope you have been enjoying your summer while it lasts. This SUV is really like a dream come true for me, and I really wanted this particular vehicle. It suits me well, and has enough room for touring, my equipment, and even for sleeping in it! Incredibly, my Uncle Ricky said yes when I asked him to sign for it since my credit sucks (no proof of income). This is the same Uncle who mentioned I should get a "real" job about a half a year ago. I talk to him often about what I actually do for a living, how hard I've been working, and I guess his view changed. My whole family really likes this vehicle, and my Grandpa especially seemed to like it. We went for a drive today right after I picked it up with my Uncle. My little brother Joe said "hey now you don't have to try to make the windows go down (for ventilation)" (since the Superwagon's windows didn't work often). I remember driving through Texas without being able to get the windows down one afternoon. It was probably 120 (or more) degrees in the car. Fortunately I had some bottled water to replenish myself from sweating buckets. Unfortunately, no credit, and no health insurance has been a lovely benefit of being a career Musician thus far. Fortunately, I will be setting up a business as a Sole Proprietor within the next few months. That will not only prove an income, but also straighten out my credit issues. Only about 1/3 of my income can be proven at this point. Regardless, my Uncle's credit is flawless so I got an amazing interest rate on my new truck. Hello. It has been a bit too long since I have written
and lately I've been missing writing these newsletters.
Let's blame it on the economy. Yes, that is why I
haven't written.. oh, and the gas prices! What does
that have to do with it? Absolutely nothing. I'd blame
the weather too, but the weather has actually been ok
lately. Just kidding!

On a more serious note I wrote an eBook about a
special diet my wife and I did. It's called the
"Daniel Fast". Overall we lost at least 10 lbs each,
and did not eat any meat or animal products, along
with no sugar, no caffein (yikes!), no alcohol, and
many other restrictions. We did this for 37 days.

I have also learned about an interesting nutrient
called Nitriloside. This is lacking in our diets and
some say that this is a nutrient that can be used to
prevent, and even stop cancer in the body. This is

Lately, I've been interested in real estate and am
currently reading a book called "How To Be A Real
Estate Millionaire". The real estate market in

what domains can sell for. I've been just making a

Greetings,

I've been away from home for over a month! My wife and I
stayed a week in Indiana, another week in Tennessee, two
weeks in South Carolina, and a weekend in Virgina. So,
I'm writing from a hotel as we will continue traveling
north all day Monday (today). You may be wondering what we
did this whole time....

Wrote 2 new songs.
Played some wonderful gigs, and open mics.
Worked from computer.
Spent a-lot of time at coffee houses.
Spent time taking walks (also by the ocean).
Watched Walker Texas Ranger.
Came up with about 5 or 6 new business ideas.
Prayed about the year ahead.
Planned some of the year ahead.
Wrote down tons of ideas and goals.
Registered some new domain names for future web sites.
Sold about 20 more CDs bringing me even closer to 1,000,0000

In closing, it is an absolute shame what has become of the
Presidential election! How diluted has everything become?
At this point, we cannot take for granite our freedoms
anymore. Not even a little. Nor can we let anything or
anyone interfere with our constitutional rights (not 1).
Perhaps in these next 4 years more rights will be taken away
than we ever even imagined. I hope and pray not. In my own
reading, hearing some facts, and gaining opinions.. I see
Hilary Clinton to be two faced. Obama comes from a Muslim
family and Muslim schooling (training) and was sworn into his
previous office using a Koran. Mike Huckabee seems to appeal
to the Southern states but get's criticism for being a
Christian? (how dare he!) I don't know much about the
Candidates. However, it's usually all about issues during
debates and speeches. If we just focus on issues, the
problems in our country will not be solved. The focus needs
to be elsewhere (on God). Until we as a Country change our
focus, things will continue to fall apart. My opinion
may not be part of today's Politically Correct views. Maybe
some reading this are offended. That is not my intention.
Either way, I'm happy to be using my freedom of speech, and
religion too. You can bet I'll be using my right to vote.

Terrance Day Newsletter - January 2008

Greetings,

Well, it's already Jan. 12! I hope you had a nice Holiday
season!

Me and Sarah are getting ready to head out for a long
trip. Next week I'll be playing some open mics in Nashville.
Besides this, I will be doing a radio interview in early
Feb. in Virginia!

I also want to write music over the course of this next
month. There is no definite rule with writing I guess, but
I'm going to just get back into the swing of things.

Mid-Feb. I'll be playing locally here in Michigan.

My goal to sell 1,000,000 CDs is going well. I previously
had a feeling this goal and concept was not completely
developed. I believe this whole thing is still coming
together. I'm making some changes.

The goal is the same, but besides making history, I'll also
be giving 100% of the proceeds to charity. This was
something I originally thought to do, but this was a tough
decision. I also didn't take the idea of giving away all
profits seriously before. After some prayer, and spiritual
nudging, I have changed my mind.

Terrance Day Newsletter - December Issue

Greetings!

Welcome to my newsletter. I wanted to take a moment to write
from a nice coffee house here in Hamtramk, Michigan. It's
called Cafe 1923 (www.cafe1923.com). They have live Jazz
music here at 2PM each Saturday. I recommend stopping in for
a great cup of coffee any day.

My music is starting to reach some new listeners on a handfull
of broadcast (FM) radio stations, and also on some internet
radio. Now that I have a CD available I am faced with the
challenge of marketing the CD to people... In other words,
musicians often need to be sales people if they want to make
money.

The web site MakeMusicHistory.com is certainly an opportunity
for people to not only buy a copy of my CD, but help
make history! I've been getting some nice comments from
many of you, and appreciate the thoughts. I have also
received some "fan email" from around the world which feels
nice.

Lately I have become even more greatful towards those who
helped record and produce this CD. This includes Desi Serna
who did an amazing job on guitars (www.desiserna.com), and
also Jim Schwarzentruber who played bass, and produced the
CD, a gifted drummer named JR, and my wife Sarah! I also
need to mention Trevor Sadler (www.mastermindproductions.com)
who spent over 100 hours on the digital mastering.

This morning I thought about musicians who are heros...
people like John Lennon, Bob Dylan, Elvis, Sting, and so many
others. There aren't many around in today's generation
though.. either that or they just aren't in the public eye
much. I think that John Mayer is, or could be one. People
need role models. I'm a bit concerned about who the role
models of today are? Certainly not reality TV. More than
ever, I imagine parents need to be on guard for their kids.
God knows the school system is not looking out for them too
well (or not able to).

Last month my wife and I got to spend a week in Emporium,
Pennsylvania. I played praise and worship songs, plus some
original stuff for two churches, and also played during
a weekend youth retreat. Talk about fun! We were surrounded
by beautiful mountains and we still had the fall weather. We
left there with a desire for more fresh air, and a simpler
life!

Later this evening I'll be heading over to Raven Cafe. It's
in downtown Port Huron, MI. Come on out for some live

Thanks for checking out my newsletter this month. The subject
link would normally say "Terrance Damian Newsletter".

I want to update anyone who did not know about my name
change. I'm going to use a different "stage name". Many of
you have seen the many changes over the years. Originally I
went by T. Damian back in the mid 90's then Terence Damian
in 2002. Soon after I chose a pen name (which I still use
for writing articles) "Deron Feivel" spelled as "Deron 5L".
Up until recently I was simply going by my first and middle
name "Terrance Damian".

I'm going to simplify this a bit more. A few months ago I
thought I would just shorten "Damian" to "Day". I really
liked this idea since it is simple. The next evening, my
wife said, have you should just go by Terrance Day. She did
not know that I had already thought of this just the night
before.. Right then and there we agreed that perhaps that
was confirmation to go ahead and use that name.

I also like this name because this name contains letters from
my full name TERRANCE DAmian schemanskY.

Future copies of my CD will have the new name on there, and
I have already updated my web site to www.terranceday.com

Greetings, Hi, I realized that I didn't write a
newsletter this month and wanted to just touch base with
you.

I have been busy with the many projects I work on, one

and manage that gets really busy this time of year.

I just love cidermills! I really got into buying domain
names back in 1999, and I still am. This domain is a pretty
cool one to own. Just last week I was fortunate to get an
offer for another domain I owned "iBackstage.com". I
accepted the offer as it was more than enough to cover the
entire manufacturing cost for 1000 copies of "A Simple Life"!

I have humbly appreciated everyone's support up until now.
Whether some people know it or not, I often think about and
am greatful for those who have helped me out.. And you
already know who you are. I hope to see many of you this
Saturday at this CD Release Party and Celebration!

The primary reason I won't have copies of "A Simple Life"
available at the party is that there are more improvements
being made in the mastering process. Regardless, the release
date IS still Saturday, October 6. It is not only the launch
date for taking public pre-orders, but also the realease of
a new web site completely dedicated to the CD "A Simple
Life". I can't hardly wait to show you this site tomarrow!
This site will express my goal to sell one million copies of
this CD.

More about the goal... well, it's my goal. I am 100 percent
serious in reaching this goal.

"Why not?" (as my wife would say).

Tomarrow at 6AM I will send out an email and invitiation to

first being released as it opens to the public!

In all the efforts and little struggles in life.. well
wouldn't it be boring if everything were just handed over on
a silver platter? Perhaps it would be worse than boring, it
might just be kind of pointless.

Perhaps I should be thankful for the everyday hassles I
am blessed with. In a way, I've become a better writer,
musician, and an overall better human being because of my
own personal struggles.. whether they are relational,
financial, spiritual, emotional, etc. etc. Funny how they
all tie together.

To those who do take the time to keep up with my newsletters,
listen to my music, and stay updated on this small music
career.. well you are part of making my dreams come true
because without "fans" of any kind (even newsletter

learned a bit about what it means to pursuit a music career.
Mostly, I've learned just how much other people don't care

still could care less. That's ok. It's a big planet.

Musicians in the world! I'm only 1. We all dream, right?
How many people can make their dreams come true? Only 1 (you)
Nobody else will do that for you. If you don't take the first
steps, you don't move!

Me, well I'm very thankful for each email address I have
(each person) I get to write to each month. Thank you for

Hello! I heard an interesting message on the radio yesterday.
It was a message from a pastor who talked about self
improvement. He made a very good point. If self improvement
was done for the mere sake of self improvement it would be
pointless. I think too many people do this.. through books,
and trying so damn hard to become better people. Once again
useless. It doesn't matter how good we can be, or
how many rules we can follow, status, or our own abilities,
etc..

Wherever you are at, it's ok to start over, or set a new
start point. This doesn't mean to give up on anything you
should hang onto, but to start over: letting go of stress,
anxiety, and the made up (useless) rules we go by in our
daily living, not walking on eggshells, not stepping in
between the cracks on the side walk, not letting fear stop
you from living the best life you can. Make a change. You've
got to move, not stay frozen, or comfortable in an illusion!

None of this should make any sense without adding one part
to the equation. But everything I am writing here is true,
with the help of Jesus you can do these things. God is true,
and has the ability to break every strong-hold, eliminate
fear and illusion, truly improve who we are, for a greater
purpose.

I have tried to rationalize many things in life, and improve
myself. For the most part, I'm glad I work to improve who
I am. Still, things just don't work without God in the
the picture. This is what I have found to be true in my life,
my music, my relationship with my wife, and every area of my
life that has been abundant.

I know many of you who read this are not Christian. I rarely
talk about my faith, but for me not to never talk about it
would not be right. I believe it is crucial for people to
know where they stand. If God drew a line in the sand, which
side of the line would you be on? Sometimes it's a fine line!
We all make our own choice.

I keep feeling like I have to apologize for writing about
this. It's hard to write about actually, since I almost
never write about my faith.. not in my newsletter anyway.
I'm not going to apologize and you should not apologize for
professing what you believe either! Sometimes there's a
place and time to talk about things, but the more important
thing is that the truth be told!

**Those songs took 3 years to record, and over 600 hours of studio time for just under $20,000.

**The drummer who simply goes by "JR" recorded drums on these songs in only 1 take for most songs! Including playing the knock sound, high hats, kick, and his unique drum pattern in "What I'm Waiting For" (available to listen to on Myspace).

Terrance Damian Newsletter - May 2007

Greetings,

It's already the 4th! Usually I send out this newsletter on the 1st as you know, so I owe an apology :(

Ok, Check this out.. I found an old newletter from exactly 3 years ago. It's interesting to see the changes since then. I'll mention a few things that are new in my life and then you can read the old newletter to see the differences. I found it interesting to say the least.

Well, for starters the biggest change is that I am married, and we just bought a wonderful house two weeks ago! I spent a full week painting non-stop, and actually enjoyed that a-lot!
Here are some Other big changes regarding the newsletter from 3 years ago you are about to read...

- I am going by my first and middle name "Terrance Damian" instead of "Deron 5L"
- I have a brand new web site www.terrancedamian.com (I'm also on Myspace of course)
- I spent 3 years in the studio and finally finished recording "The Simple Life" to be released soon..
- Me and one other sponsor (James) still have a sponsor child through "Christian Children's Fund" named "Breyner" from Brazil. He has grown quite a bit (he's now 14) and is always so appreciative of getting any letters.
- I now drive a big Econoline van. I miss my Dodge Durango, but the van is much better for touring the country. I also still miss the "Superwagon" by the way..
- My credit has improved drastically (especially since buying a house), but I still don't have health insurance.
- My label "3000 Records" has worked with about 500 Bands since 3 years ago through multiple compilation CD projects, and the "CD Register" (a project I started about 3 years ago).
- I haven't worked out too much lately so no big improvements in that area, but I eat much better organic food. No hormone injected meat, and my wife and I only drink organic milk.
- Since 3 years ago I've spent probably 16 - 18 weeks traveling, and have visited many places throughout the country

Terrance Damian Newsletter - December 2006

Hello my friend. I am scheduling this newsletter to go out on
the 1st day in December, but I'm writing this on the eve. of
Thanksgiving. By the time you get this I'll be a married man,
enjoying a honeymoon in Florida with my wife.

I did get a master copy of the CD finally. After I got the
CD I drove around for awhile and listened to it. We will
be going back and forth during the mastering process to
make adjustments here and there.... but it's actually almost
done.

It seems these days that my bar gigs are running out, and
I haven't been looking for more cover gigs really. I'm
preparing for a year on the road, me, my wife, my guitar, and
my new used van... and boxes of CDs to sell. Yeah Friend,
this sounds crazy to me too! But, why not.

Don't get me wrong, our goal is to have a home to call our
own. I have a good friend in real estate that has been a
huge help. We've been looking for a house for about 3 months.
They say it's a buyers market here in Michigan right now.

Try not to be too annoyed with all of the Christmas
hype that started sooooo early. I think they were playing
Christmas music in certain stores right after Halloween. What
happened to waiting until after Thanksgiving to play Christmas
music?

Well, do me a favor while I'm gone! Please keep us in your

Terrance Damian Newsletter - November 2006

Friend,

Three years ago today I wrote the first of ten songs to
become the CD "A Simple Life". I wrote one song per day for
10 days from Nov. 1st - Nov. 11th. The first sentance of the
first lyrics written for the CD were "Walking down this
winding road called life"!

Well, as many of you know I got engaged in August to my
beautiful fiance Sarah. On November 25th we will be getting
married, and I am excited. I feel we are right where we are
supposed to be, but there is so much to do!

The CD is still in the mastering process. Trevor (the
mastering engineer) is a very popular guy with major labels,
and independent Musicians like me. When his schedule allows
him to work on "A Simple Life", the CD will eventually be
finalized. I am hoping to release the full CD in January, but
will release a 3 song EP before Christmas if possible..

Champps Restaurant has cancelled their entertainment so I no
longer play there on Fridays. I was there for a year and a
half. The gig was a great gig to have, but now I'm getting
ready for many other adventures. While I am still going to
book local gigs, I'm preparing for a year long tour. The tour
will be throughout 2007 and me and my future wife will be
heading from state to state in the a new used van. My truck
is still for sale!

I hope this fall season has been a good one for you. Each
week has gone by so quickly. Finally, my fiance and I went to
the Cider Mill last weekend. My favorite Cider Mill now
pasturizes their cider, so it doesn't taste the same. I like
good old fashioned cider, made fresh. Unfortunlately many
Cider Mills are no longer making fresh cider. I'll have to
find another Cider Mill to buy apple cider.

Terrance Damian Newsletter - October 2006

Welcome to the newsletter. Before today I was feeling pretty uninspired to write. That's not a bad thing, it just is what it is. I guess you can't always be inspired when you write a newsletter.

In September I spent much of my time in a state of constant motion, somewhat stressed, and anxious. I realize that way of "being" only leads to more stress and anxiety. Time to stop.

Well, yesterday I was able to take a nice super hot bath (at my grandparents). They have a one of those old fashioned tubs, you know the white kind with the 4 feet holding it up. Since I usually just take showers, it was amazing to realize just how good a bath can be for a person when they are stressed, even if you don't know you are so stressed.

The CD is coming to a close as this CD was remixed, yes again, this month. The mixes didn't have the pro sound quality that was strived for, so I just let go of the project and asked Jim to make more changes. He worked on the mixes himself with notes that I gave him for suggested changes. Now, the mixes are where they need to be. Last month I thought we were done, this month (today actually) we will actually be completely done mixing.. and we need to be because they mysterious buzz at Jim's actual studio location is gone. He's moving all his own gear back there.

An EP will be released a.s.a.p. called "three EP" with three of the songs that will be on the full CD. The full length CD "A Simple Life" will come out in January. This means when I tour, I will be supporting a 2007 release. I like that idea much better.

This evening I have a gig at the Raven Coffeehouse in Port Huron, MI. I've mentioned this place many times in previous newsletters, and it's a great place. Definitely check it out if you are out in Port Huron. www.ravencoffeehouse.com

Friend,

Hi. Well, I'm sitting in Motor City Joe's coffee house in
Warren, MI. This is a cool place that has been remodeled, with
hard wood floors, nice decor, plus more. They also offer free
wi-fi (wireless internet). In case you are wondering, they are
located on Hoover Rd., near 12 mile.

I've got some exciting news to share with you this month!
Recently I got engaged to my beautiful girlfriend Sarah.
I proposed to her after a long scavenger hunt, which ended up
with her getting a small folded note at the bottom of her ice
cream cone (actually custard)... We were sitting on a bench at
the playground of the grade school I went to (St. Lawrence).
After she read the note I got down on one knee while smiling
and holding the ring in an open box. With a little laughter,
and being full of emotion I asked her to marry me! She was
already teary eyed by the time she read through most of the
note. She was also completely surprised. Now we are busy
making plans for a decent size wedding, honeymoon, and place
to live! Exciting! Whew!

I've spent another month in the studio with Jim, about 5 days
per week mixing this CD. However, we've mixed this CD down
accurately, and the songs have been carefully crafted. Most
likely, as you read this, the CD will be completed (Friday).
I'll ship the mixed down songs to a mastering studio soon.
The mastering studio will polish off each song with more
compression, EQ, and other things to improve the overall mixes.
From there, the CD will be pressed up at a CD manufacturing
company right here near Detroit.

Yesterday I spent an afternoon doing a photo shoot with
a great photographer named Jeff Witters. He has done photography
for the Metro Times, and does some great local art photography.
I'm far from being a model, but I thought the pictures turned
out nicely for the new CD coming out, a press kit, and for
web site use! I also lost about 8 or 10 pounds for these photos.
The way I lost some extra weight was by drinking absolutely no
pop, and ate no junk food (except some chocolate) for a few
months... I also switched from drinking heavier beers to super
light beer. Still, I think most of the weight was lost due to
eating much more organic food, especially organic meat. My gym
membership hasn't been used much though. I've been quite busy.
I'll have to work on that this month.

Soon I will have a brand new web site online! I don't like
the idea of saying "bye" to my old web site after 5 years, but
it is time for a new web site! This new site will be pro
quality. The site will have many of the same features as the
old site, plus new features such as a media player.

From time to time I like to mention what my little sister
(Debbie) is up to with her modeling career. Recently she made
a cool hair styling video for Herbal Essence. You can see

Hi. June was the longest month I can remember in awhile. These
last 30 days felt like 60 days to me. Studio time has been
going well, and I've spent a good number of days in the studio
during June. Jim (producer) spent many more days than me at
the studio working on the CD. I can't see myself hyping up this
CD release any more than I have so I won't say much more until
the CD is finally done! Yes, we are almost done after two and a
half years.

It seems like I'm always writing about a new gadget, or
something new that I bought.. Well, this past month I got a
new gadget. It's a HP iPAQ (PDA, Phone, MP3 Player, Camera,
Voice Recorder, Calculator, Word Processor, and more). To
put it in a nut shell, it's my new phone!

During the summer I plan on staying in Michigan, and not driving
far. This way I can save money on gas, and stick around home,
and play as many gigs as possible locally. For those of you
that are not aware I do play private parties, graduations,

My birthday is July 16th, and I get to be another year older.
I'm looking forward to this next year, especially my favorite

enjoy the age that I am? I just want to enjoy life at any age.

Other thought.. I'm glad I quit smoking over 5 years ago. I
probably wouldn't be able to sing the same if I smoked. Hack.

This fall season I'll be touring around the country. I'm will
be buying a van for touring soon! I am selling my Dodge Durango.

Good Morning! Or perhaps later if you aren't getting this
right away. I guess I have been lacking sleep voluntarily
because I think I'm just too excited and overwhelmed with
everything. If it's not caffine, it's adrenalin that keeps
me up. Eventually, I will be too tired to not sleep. Until
then..

Last month I mentioned that I would send over a free new
download. It's a new version of "College Town" that I
recorded with a new digital recorder I recently purchased.
I'll be sending that download in a separate email coming
tomorrow!

In addition, I have a new guitar. It's a Gibson. This pretty
guitar is shiny and black just like my cat "Lucy". Although
it doesn't purr, the sound quality is top notch. It sounds
very pro, and that's why I bought a Gibson.

Jim has been producing this new CD to no end, and I gotta
say.. it's exciting. I've been re-doing all vocals for this.
The vocals are almost DONE. In that process, I think I have
learned to breath properly when I sing. What a difference!
Now it seems like I didn't know how to even sing before.
This afternoon I'll be at the studio working on a few
"Re-takes". Take 120, 121, 122, 123.. We'll get it right.

I'm playing at the Raven Coffeehouse in Port Huron this
evening. This is probably one of the best coffee houses you
could ever go to if you are into coffee houses. The show
starts at 8PM.

Deron 5L Newsletter = Terrance Damian Newsletter - May 2006

It's already May. This must be an April Fools Joke or
something.

Well, the 1st of May passed by and I didn't get this
newsletter out. Just to make sure everyone getting this
understands.. I am going by my first and middle name
"Terrance Damian". Deron 5L was a pen name for awhile and I
still like it, but I'm not going to use it on stage or on my
CD anymore. It was too confusing for people, and the
pronunciation was difficult to convey. My music will still
represnt the same meaning as "Deron Feivel". You can look up
the meanings of those names in a baby name book or
babynames.com online.

Over the past few months I've been playing my songs at
places in Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia, and Kentucky.
These haven't been big shows, but just open mics and
Songwriter nights at different bars and coffee houses. It
has been a great chance to add people to this email list,
and do some promotion of my music, and my company "3000
Records".

I'm playing at Lenny's Coffee Gallery this Saturday. This

Terrance Damian Newsletter - April 2006

Friend,

Well, before I get started.. when you are done reading my
newsletter, scroll to the bottom. I included one of my
favorite April Fool's jokes.

March was a long month. Just got back from Pennsylvania last
week. I was able to meet many people, and perform at many
great places!

While I was mostly focusing on music promotion, and playing
at different places there was time to have some additional
fun, and also learn about the area. There were many things
to in Hershey Pennsylvania such as the Hershey Chocolate
Factory. Gettysburgh is also nearby, where the "Battle Of
Gettysburgh" took place of course. This is where Lincoln
gave the "Gettysburgh Address". It is really an amazing
speech. I hope to see the Indian Caverns in Harrisburg when
I tour in Pennsylvania again this September.

I've also been playing a variety of places around South East
Michigan. I'll be at Raven Coffeehouse tonight in downtown
Port Huron. It's a fantastic place..probably one of the best
coffeehouses in the country. As always my complete calendar

Last week I bought a new guitar. It is a Gibson. The sound
is a huge improvement. I am very happy about this. Along
with getting a new guitar I also bought a digital 8 track
recorder, a pre-amp, and a condensor mic. This basic
equipement will allow me to do simple recordings of just me
and my guitar. You can look forward to hearing some songs
I've written over the last 15 years as I start recording
them. Many songs will be demos, but I'll try to get some
good quality tracks done. This of course doesn't even come
close to the capeabilities at the studio I record at! Still,
it's a step in the right direction for me to get things down
on tape (or CD). I am thinking of making a separate web site
dedcated to all the acoustic music as I record each song.

Well, progress is being made in the studio for the CD "A
Simple Life". Jim and I have been meeting up about twice
a week. Each studio session is really bringing
this full band CD closer to the final product.

The tour will continue even without a CD out. It's
interesting as I begin to realize the importance of touring
BEFORE releasing a CD. Whoever said you had to be a rock
star to tour anyway? Next week.. Nashville baby!

April Fool's Joke: Boston Globe Price Cut

Readers of the Boston Morning Globe in 1915 could have
purchased their papers for half the cost on April Fool's
Day, if they had been alert. The price listed on the front
page had been lowered from "Two Cents Per Copy" to
"One Cent." But almost 60,000 copies of the paper were sold
before anyone noticed the unannounced price change. When the
management of the Globe found out about the change, they
were just as surprised as everyone else. The new price
turned out to be the responsibility of a mischievous
production worker who had surreptitiously inserted the lower
value at the last minute as the paper went to print.

D5L Newsletter Continued...

Friend, Hello again. Sorry about the "firstname" at
the start of my newsletter this month.. Just goes to show
how "personal" technology can be.

I just got back from the movies and saw "Heart Of Gold"
which is basically Neil Young performing live with a bunch
of band members. It was good, but not what I expected.
This was however, the perfect movie to chill and watch, and
relax. Not your typical overhyped, and over-produced movie
out today.

Neil Young sings a song about a time when things were
simpler.. someone would actually stop and chat with the
local police officer.. people got around more on bikes, and
things were slower. Today, so many young kids grow up in a
fast paced, and technological society. Technology doesn't
have to be a bad thing, but it can be.

I was talking with Sarah about how nice it is to have the
convenience of a mobile phone.. Since I washed her phone
in the washing machine, she mentioned how nice it was NOT to
have one. I can understand exactly why. Can you? We don't
have to be slaves to our technology, and impersonalize
everything from emails to bank transactions online. We can
still be who we are, we can communicate, we can say "hello"
to the person in our path. At least "excuse me". Is that
even a part of our language anymore? And if you do say
"excuse me" to someone, most of the time they don't even
look up anyway.

I'm calling my new CD "A Simple Life" by the way. It was
going to be called "The Simple Life" but I just don't want
my CD associated with the T.V. show with the same title. I
think "A Simple Life" sounds better anyway.

I'll leave you with some lyrics from the song
"A Simple Life" to be included on the new CD, when the
complicated studio recording finally comes out.

I guess I've been so busy updating my web site that I forgot
to send this newletter out on the 1st. Of course February
went by really fast since it is a short month. Thanks for
the reminder Peter.

Well, here we are. You are reading my newsletter and I am
rambling on. So I have tons of news but I'm going to divide
this news up over the next few newsletters.

For starters.. well this monthly newsletter will not be
called the D5L Newsletter after this month. It will say
"Terrance Damian Newsletter" instead.

I have decided to simply go by Terrance and also use my
middle name "Damian". No fancy spellings, or pronunciations,
just my name as it looks on my birth certificate. I'm not
100% certain on this decision, however, most likely I'll
stick with this. Time will tell.

With this said, I have also revised my web site completely.
Being my own webmaster left me with quite a job. I put about
40 solid hours of work into this web site within the last
month. I'd like your feedback on how you like the site, the
links, and the additional info. now available. Let me know

I've been getting lots of store play from a bunch of retail
stores and businesses. I found out this month that over the
last year, the song "This Life (Live)" earned like $57 in
royalties somehow. That's gotta be a-lot of store play
considering they probably pay a few pennies each time it's
played. I thought that was flippin sweet, and the check I
just got is enough to fill up the tank on my Durango.

Due to some crazy feedback wavelength problems at the
studio, the new CD will not be done anytime soon. This odd
problem at the studio is currently being looked into by all
kinds of people. Hopefully I'll be back in there mixing down
this CD soon. I'll probably stop talking about this CD for
awhile but when it comes out you will get an invite to the
CD Release Party!

Last month I started touring! I went to a bunch of open mics
in Virginia. I got to play some songs at the bar where Dave
Matthews used to be a bartender. The crowd was responsive.
There are really nice audiences there in Virginia. I hope to
go back there again within the year.

This month I will be playing various open mics in
Pennslyvania! I am really looking forward to checking out
the music scene in many cities out there.

This Friday,March 3rd I'm playing up at Lenny's Coffee and
Gallery. It's a sweet place located in Eastpointe, MI. I
have another coffee house gig at Raven Coffeehouse in Port
Huron next month on April 1st. This is the third year in a
row that I will be playing there on April Fool's Day. It
seems a funny coincidence to get that date yet again. You
can always check out my calendar of shows each month from my
web site! Hope to see you at a show this month.

Tonight I'm going out tonight to see the new movie about
Neil Young. In case you haven't heard about it, the movie
is called "Heart Of Gold". I'm a pretty big Neil Young fan
and can't wait to see this film. I also hear his new CD is
fantastic. I'll have to get that too.

After writing this newsletter each month for over 4 years it's interesting to think I haven't run out of things to say.

....long silent pause ..... ..... ..... hmmm ......

I've been calling more places recently to book gigs than I have in over a year. Within the last year I think that booking gigs has become more difficult around here. Perhaps it is the economy. It just isn't the same. Therefore, I am especially fortunate, and greatful to have the regular gigs that I have at Champps, Tappers Pub, and Potbelly's Sandwich Works in the Renaissance Center.

This past week I met a really cool guy at an open mic night in Birmingham at Dick O Dows Irish Pub. His name is Peter and he is from Scotland. Me and my girlfriend, and our friend Mark Reitenga (http://www.markreitenga.com) showed Peter around Detroit last week. We went to the Hard Rock Cafe, and also took a ride on the People Mover, stopped off at Greektown, and then went to a small Detroit bar with a Blues / Rock Band. It was a fun evening, and I realized that I should go to Detroit more often to hang out. Peter went back to Scotland this week, but it's great to have a friend in Scotland.

My little sister Debbie has been quite busy with her modeling career. I think she can really call it a career at this point. She's been traveling all over the US practically every week. She's in a really cool commercial for GM. It's got this Hip Hop song in the background, and she is one of the models. She was also recently on a billboard in Times Square in NYC. I'm also excited for her since she is going to Greece in a few months to do modeling. A company is even paying for her to have a place to stay there! I know I don't mention her in my newsletter too often, well not since she was in Cosmopolitan Magazine as a Contest finalist! That was a few years back. She's been working hard, and keeping her head on straight. I'm sure it can be a difficult business to be in.

I guess this past month has really been a month of much thinking, praying, and planning. I am looking forward to this next month as I'll be making some improvements to my web site, and playing some new gigs, and open mics. I've also been considering to use my first and middle name on the new CD, and go by that from now on. Those of you who have known me for more than 4 years already know that I used to go by Terence Damian. However, I think I will spell it the way it reads on my birth certificate "Terrance Damian".

Two more compilations with my indie record label 3000 Records have been released with about 40 Bands and Artists worldwide! Last week me and my girlfriend, and my brother Joe packed up about 2000 CDs which were shipped worldwide (US, Canada, Australia, Germany, United Kingdom....) to the participating Bands and Artists.

Hopefully as you read this you are enjoying your New Year so far. Now that the New Year has begun it will be easy for me to fall back into the same routines, but I hope to change some of them.

This is the newsletter where I usually talk about New Year's Resolutions. My resolution will be to use a planner every day, and update it with things to do, along with a clear timeline. To put it simply, my resolution is "To Plan" and follow through.

Here are some things I learned in 2005.

*You can't always get what you want. Too bad Bob Dylan already wrote a song about that.
*Don't procrastinate when it comes to the importance of family. Ex: Visiting a sick relative.
*Spend money as needed, not as wanted. It seems the more money I can make, the easier I spend it.
*Go to the gym at least once per month for stress relief, and go tanning once in awhile during the winter for a better mood.
*Eliminate all expenses that occur debt, unecessary monthly fees, interest, and/or addiction (Starbucks).
*Drink organic milk, and eat organic food whenever possible
*Don't justify being angry with being right
*As an adult, the younger generation is much more impressionable than I ever realized.
*Be patient with meeting goals.
*Spend more money on good music.
*Always read the D5L Newsletter every month (kidding!)

I'm sure I could write and write about things learned. Maybe I'll add to the list next year, etc..

I will be starting off my first gig of the New Year by hosting an open mic that my mentor Stephen Grant Wood (http://www.thehummingbirds.com) usually hosts. I will be covering for him as he takes a vacation to Las Vegas. I will also be playing at a restraunt called Marinelli's this month. My steady gigs will also continue at Champps, Tappers Pub, and Potbelly's inside the Renaissance Center.

Bullseye the movie premiered at the Emagine Theater on December 15th. I really enjoyed seeing the movie for the first time. Some people said I can actually act, and that was a relief! Hopefully the movie will be showing again somewhere soon. I'll be buying a few extra copies from the director for those interested. If you would like to buy a copy on DVD let me know.

On a side note, Bob Segar was also there at the movie theater. I don't know what movie he was going into, but he walked straight through the lobby with his large pop and popcorn. I chased him for a brief moment, and then stopped myself from bothering him. You may be thinking that it probably wasn't Bob Segar.. but two other people confirmed that it was. It was him, that Old Time Rock 'N Roller.

Hello. I hope you are doing well, staying healthy this time of year. It always seems there's people out there who don't recouperate from being sick, and just keep pushing on. The problem with that.. well, you get other people sick when you are sick, and still out and about. I had this happen at church last week. Someone was sick, sitting near me and my girlfriend, and I ended up in bed for 2 days. "Thanks a-lot dude".

Fortunately, I'll be in good shape for my gig later today at Champps! I'm feeling better.

Well, I have news I've been wanting to be able to say for a long time now. Finally, I signed up for indoor soccer! Other than twisting my ankle yesterday, I'm really enjoying this sport. Soccer is my favorite! On a side note, I got another gym membership after not going for about a half a year.

Exercise is so good for reducing stress, and I need it. This new CD that is getting mixed down has been tough. It's stressful. From the financial burden, to being efficient with studio time, and making sure things are done right.. It's truly enough to want to crawl into bed and just hibernate.

3000 Records has kept me busy with 2 new compilations coming out next week. If you know any Musicians interested in jumping on board and getting on the next compilation tell them about "3000Records.com" Thanks!

I'm realizing how much I can lack in the "sales" department. Booking gigs has been so slow for me because I have such a hard time getting on the phone. I prefer when people come to me to book me for gig. Right now just about all the gigs I have are from word of mouth or referrals where the Management came to me. The problem with that is, well, I am only playing about 3 gigs per week. This should be a busy time of year.. I'll be forcing myself to make some phone calls early next week! If you know any good places I should play, let me know. I'm available for playing gigs at private parties and company events as well.

This Month's Lesson: When times seem difficult, look at it as a challege or test. If difficult times are a just a test why not take them with a grain of salt.

"Bullseye".. Being one of the main characters in a movie has been pretty darn exciting.. I know I've been talking about it for awhile now. This month there is a special preview on Dec. 15th. Unfortunately, I found out that the theature is already full so I can't invite anyone except some family members and a few friends. I'll be inviting you to come to one of the showings in early 2006 though!! Stay tuned.

As I write this, I'm sitting here on Monday night at the music
studio where my new CD "The Simple Life" is being mixed down.
We're making great progress. I'm lending an ear while Jim is
doing some editing, production, and engineering work. Earlier
today Paul (the other music producer) was also here doing some
quality production work.

..SO I put together a new web site especially for you and
other newsletter subscribers. It's called "Linkjack"! This
web site was started as a fundraiser project to go towards
the production costs of this CD, and then tour expenses later
on. The problem right now is that nobody really knows about
the site yet. This is where you come in. Read on!

I'm in a coffee house at about 2A.M. in Ann Arbor.
I've been downtown since about 5P.M. hanging out,
eating lots of junk food. It's my junk food day.
Me and my girlfriend have been piggin out and I
feel kinda sick now. The other 6 days a week, I
am strict with what we eat (no sugar, fat..). I
also try to eat organic food, especially milk,
and meat. What a difference that makes. It's
almost like eating on a different planet, like
I've eaten on another planet before.. It's late
to be writing a newsletter.

You know Ann Arbor is pretty much my favorite city
in the country, but I can't believe how different
it is at 2A.M. with drunk dudes everywhere and
half naked girls prancing around. Are these people
college students at U of M? I don't know.

Well, this beautiful fall weather is the best! I
have always liked this time of year. This is also
a cool time of year since CiderMills.Com is getting
way more traffic. There were 3485 clicks to the
homepage for Sept. alone. This is a project I
started last year. I bought the domain back in
1999. See http://www.cidermills.com I'm not the
best webmaster, but simplicity is part of the
formula for a successful site.

Oh, before I forget I want to mention a very cool
site. It's a site full of guitar apparel by Desi
Serna (the guitarist on my soon to be released

CD Update: We will begin mixdown October 20th. Jim
has additional $40k in equipment now and merged
with another studio for awhile. Fortunately, this
equipment will be used during the mixdown process!
The owner of much of this equipment is also a
producer with tons of training and experience. His
name is Paul. Both Paul and Jim will be producing
this CD. I'll be lending an ear during the mixdown
process as well.

This Month's Lesson: Write down goals. Last month I
almost felt depressed until a friend snapped me out
of it. I realized I needed to write down what was on
my mind. I wrote down a "to do" list, made an
outline of some goals, wrote down my top 5
priorities, and even wrote a Mission Statement for
my life. I highly recommend doing this. I've been
much more productive and happier (and content)
since then.

Once again, I recommend the book "Natural Cures
They Don't Want You To Know About" by Kevin Trudeau.

Friend,

Well, this newsletter is about 1 day late. Usually I send it
out on the 1st! Sorry for the delay. I've been writing this
newsletter every month since, hmm.. I think early 2002? Since I
started this career in music, I've been able to communicate with
people I've met along the way through this newsletter. I look back
and think that a career in music is not as easy as I thought. Well,
I'm glad I never knew how difficult this would be when I started.
Either way, there is nothing else I'd rather be doing.

So, you could imagine how important it is to be able to write this
newsletter. It's the one way I keep n touch with people,
potentially fans, people that will come see me play, or buy a CD.
Getting support, well, it's pretty important. That's why I am
boldly appreciative of each new subscriber.

It often takes hundreds of thousands of dollars, and often
millions for the Bands that are signed to record, tour, get
airplay, advertise, and get the results desired by big record
labels (to make money). What I'm doing right now is simpler, and
less expensive. Owning your own record label means funding
everything, or finding those funds somehow. It also means
delegating, or hiring others to do necessary work.

This new CD has been in production for several years now. I wrote
the songs that will be on this new CD in November of 2003. Since
then I found gifted musicians (Jim, Desi, and Jay R) to play on
the CD and bring together a full band sound. It's been amazing to
see this CD come this far.

Jim the Bass player, and producer just got some new equipment as
well. These changes in the studio have brought many delays. These
delays have proven to be a good thing, considering how much
better this CD is turning out. It also gives me time to come up
with more money to fund everything, but gas prices aren't helping things.

As for the name "Deron Feivel". I am getting more comfortable with
this, instead of "Darren Feivel". The decision was difficult to
make, but I'm glad that I went back to the original name that
came to me in 2002.

This Month's Lesson: Drink organic milk. Milk today comes from cows
that get injected with hormones, so they will produce more milk.
Those homones get into our bodies, and kids bodies. Most people
argue, "THEY wouldn't allow anything to be sold that would actually
hurt people". Folks, the type of milk at our grocery stores in the
US is ILLEGAL in Europe because of how dangerous it is. Drink
organic milk, this is nothing more than "actual" milk, from
cows not injected with hormones. You see, over the last decade cows
started being injected with hormones to produce more milk. This is
because of greedy companies that don't care about your
health. They care about making more money period.

I recommend the book "Natural Cures They Don't Want You To Know
About" by Kevin Trudeau. I can hardly believe what is going on with
the medical industry, and food and drug industry after hearing the
audio CDs. This is absolutely astonishing.

Hello Friend,

Hi! I hope summer has been a time for you to enjoy the weather and be active outdoors. Air conditioning is nice, but it doesn't compare to conditioning yourself to the outdoors! August will be a good month for me to do this.

Since last month I've been going by "Darren Feivel".. BUT after trying this name on for a month I've come to a different conclusion. Even I am surprised about this.

In 2002 when I started out, I stumbled upon the names "Deron" and "Feivel" while looking up the meanings of many different names. I really like the meanings of these two names. I started using those names as my "pen/stage name" and spelling it as "Deron 5L" until last month. This is pronounced "Darren 5-L" by the way..
AND I'm going back to basics on this. I'm using the original name before I spelled it as "Deron 5L".

You may wonder how I finally decided on this. Well, I thought of so many different ways to rate the name such as pronunciation, the name being easy to remember, how it looks in writing, and the actual meaning behind it, etc... Still, my final decision was made much easier.

I simply closed my eyes and pictured myself being 70 years old sitting on a beach in South Haven Michigan (I really like that place). I imagined having a full music career behind me and then asked what name I would have wanted to use. Nothing else but the name "Deron Feivel" made sense or sounded right. This name also feels comfortable. I now feel at peace about this after many sleepless nights, finally.

Another good thing came out of doing this exercise of picturing myself on a beach at the age of 70. I am just not so stressed about this career in music. I want it to work out how God wants, because I'm realizing more and more that He has my best interest in His hands. It's not in "My Hands".

This Month's Lesson: I think I just found it in the paragraph above.

On July 1st I finished acting in a movie called "Bullseye". It will be out this winter. This past month I had the privilage of being a part of a play called "Erasing 8". This is a play about the dividing line of 8 mile road between Detroit and the suburbs. This play is a project by Focus Hope, an organization in Detroit. We (the actors, and Focus Hope Staff created this play), hopefully this play will live on. I hope you will see it someday! We may perform this at other locations, and I'll keep you posted.

It looks like we will be ready to begin mixdown of this new CD this month. Jim still needs to finish his bass tracks, but they sure sound great so far! I also want to mention that I am considering using a different CD title other than "The Simple Life". Got any suggestions?

Hello Friend,

Welcome to my July Newsletter. I have plenty of news!

After some deep thought, and prayer, I decided to change the spelling of my pen name. I then spent some more time listening to my heart, my head, and then had little help from my girlfriend. I wanted something simple, easy to read (and pronounce), that is recognizable and artistic.. Thus the newly revised name.... Darren Feivel

The name still stems from "Deron Feivel" the original pen name, and the meanings of those two names still represent my music and lyrics. You can look them up in a baby name book for the meanings.

The old site is still up at http://www.deron5l.com however, the new link and site chages have been created. Click http://www.darrenfeivel.com and check it out. You can see the new main text logo at the top, and the new "D5L" logo in the top left corner. I think the old "D5L" logo was great, but after coming up with a new "D5L" logo, this was something I wanted to use. Feel free to let me know your opinion about this new spelling, and logos!

As you may know an independent movie called "Bullseye" is being filmed right here in South East Michigan. Last month I mentioned that I had a role in this film. I wanted to tell you more about it this month.

Well, we have been filming consistently for almost 3 weeks and this evening (July 1st) is the last day of filming for me. My character is Thomas "Tommy" Jefferson and the name is kind of a joke in itself. This is a very funny, fun, somewhat emotional movie about two brothers Tommy and Billy "Bullseye" Jefferson. They are serious dart players, yup darts! Heck they made a movie about dodgeball, why not darts? There is so much I could go on about as far as the story line. I'll talk more about the story line when the movie is closer to being released later on this year.

There are so many fun charaters in this film. Just some of my favorites are the Burt Reynolds Fan Club, LOL. ..along with the Tom Selleck Fan Club. These guys all wear fake mustaches. Then there's Mitchell and Blain, these two characters are so arrogant and annoying it's absolutely hilarious. Overall, there are about 50 cast members I think. Then there's Beth who plays an old high school friend of mine, and "Guts" who is one of my best friends in the movie. You should see the guy eat nachos. I had a great time acting in this so far, and am greatful for such an opportunity. You'll be invited when this is shown for the first time. Keep in mind, this is an independent effort on a $20,000 budget, so this movie won't be showing at your local AMC, but it will most likely be played at some theaters, and it will be on DVD, and possibly distributed to rental stores, plus some other places.

This Month's Lesson: Be Patient. This is a lesson I'm sure most people could use.. heck just try driving down 696 or getting in line at a Starbucks! Anyways, while filming this movie, the director Scott has been so patient. Just when I think he's gonna start yelling about something, he just moves on. I realize that patience is so important to make goals a true reality. There is no instant success, and if it is instant it won't last.. not without a foundation.

The new CD "The Simple Life" is still being recorded. Jim, the Bass Player is working consistently on getting his tracks done. Each song is taking him many many hours/days of creative playing, practice, and recording. He sounds like a pro.. just like Desi (guitar) and Jay R (drums)! I'm really looking forward to starting the mixdown of the recording process this month.

Deron 5L Newsletter - June 2005

Hello, it's about 5:30AM and I'm just starting this wonderful task of writing my newseletter. I'm still on a late late schedule, but I'll just consider it an early one at this point.

Last month I had to buy a new 300 gigabyte hard drive for backing up studio tracks. The old one started, well..not working, and we weren't sure if all of the tracks for this CD were recoverable. Jim (Producer/Bass player) was able to pull everything out of the old hard drive, after about 7 hours of extra work. Buying the new hard drive, plus covering some extra studio time brought up expenses to recording this CD a bit. It was worth it of course.

Well, vocals are very close to done. There are also some other tracks like percussion that need to be recorded. Soon we will begin mixing down the tracks! From there the CD will be mastered, pressed up, and then you can expect an invite to my CD Release Party.

This Month's Lesson: Push ahead when you feel stuck. I've been feeling like I'm in molasses lately because of the work load I have been taking on ..I mean, between my businesses (3000 Records (.com), Indie 360 (.com), CD Register (.com) , CiderMills.Com (..), and being a full time Musician, plus some other things I have in the works!! It's amazing how I didn't have that much to do when I first quit my "corporate" job, and now I'm twice as busy. I feel super good when I push ahead, even when I don't feel like it. I feel great when I keep on going when I want to quit, but I imagine some kind of finish line may be ahead for this race..and I imagine a prize too!

I want to thank my friend Rebecca for designing a cool "Deron 5L" logo you can now see on my web site, and also on my new business card! Soon it will be on t-shirts. I know I mentioned having a new logo last month, but forgot to tell everyone who came up with the logo!! I've messed with trying to come up with a logo in the past, but she got it! Thanks Rebecca.

I also want to mention that Desi Serna (lead guitar) for "Deron 5L" just came out with yet another book. It's called "Fretboard Theory". You can see more about this at http://www.desiserna.com/bookstore.html Desi finished guitar tracks last month for the new CD coming out "The Simple Life". As I think I mentioned before they sound even better than I could have imagined!

This month I start a new gig at a great place on Saturday nights. The location is Uno's! Uno's is a great place for pizza, drinks, and good company. They are located on Mound & M59 in Sterling Heights, (near AMC 30). I'll be there this Saturday, June 4th from 9PM until Midnight. Stop in for dinner, or dessert. Update About House Fire: Just in case you were wondering, my cat "Lucy" is doing much better since last month! I'm very happy about that. She seems to be much happier too. The upstairs to my Parent's house is still being redone, and there is much work to do downstairs too. Hopefully within the next 3 weeks everyone can move back.

I CAN'T BELIEVE I almost forgot to mention this. Last month I met with a movie producer, and tried out for a part. I was selected to play one of the lead roles in a movie called "Bullseye". It is an independent movie being filmed by Scott Cummins of Squaking Parrot Productions. The last movie he directed was "Dexter Murphy's Expiration Date". Coincidently, the movie will come out close to the same time as my CD! We will be filming this month! Gotta go practice my lines..

Deron 5L Newsletter - May 2005

I like when May arrives. It's a time when that winter feeling starts to fade. Then that winter feeling is forgotten about until about November.

Glen Phillips (the voice of Toad The Wet Sprocket) has a new CD out called "Winter Pays For Summer". I had a chance to meet him at a Border's Bookstore last month. I felt kind of star struck so I couldn't say much, but he talked to me for a few minutes. I don't remember what he said, but he mentioned going to his show that night. Me, my girlfriend, and a few other friends went. He was awesome, and I highly recommend his new CD. It's his best in about 10 years. Of course that is my opinion, however he my favorite along with Shawn Mullins, and Stephen Grant Wood. You can check out his web site at http://www.glenphillips.com

I've been getting some vocals done in the studio for my CD coming out in late summer. My vocals are sounding different that they did about a year ago. They are more relaxed, plus there are many harmonies being added. I hope this is a good thing for my new CD.

This Month's Lesson: Trust is important for your sanity. I say this because I've been praying and learning to trust, especially trust God. About a week and a half ago the upstairs to my Parent's house caught on fire. One room totally burned, and the whole upstairs was pretty much destroyed due to the smoke. Nobody was home exept my Dad, and my Parent's dog, and my cat when this happened. My Dad went to the neighbors house to call the fire Dept. He is ok. My cat "Lucy" was in critical condition for about 3 days. She had severe smoke inhalation from being upstairs during the fire. The Vet did not sound optimistic and said she had a 30 percent chance to survive (with oxygen, medication, and an IV). She pulled through. I've had to force feed her for several days now since she doesn't have an appetite. She is getting stronger everyday though. As for my Parent's house, it won't be the same place. Insurance is covering pretty much everything though. There will be many repairs, and replaced items. This has given my family a chance to get closer, fight some, and work together. The important thing is to trust.

I realize this newsletter is a few days late, so I apologize about that. It's been two and a half years since I started writing this newsletter. I don't think I've ever been late, maybe one other time. Things feel like they are in slow motion right now, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Soon, I will begin booking my tour for this Fall and Winter. I will have help with the many tasks involved, plus promotion. My record company 3000 Records now has some part time help. Bradford Hollingsworth recently finished working for the management company that manages Uncle Kracker here in Michigan, and before that worked in the promotions department for Jive Records in New York. He is very excited to work on the more independent side of things, and that is why he's working for 3000 Records! Sean Archer has also joined the team. He currently owns a music studio, and is an Artist / Vocalist himself. They will be helping me with the other company projects as well. See www.3000records.com for more info.

Deron 5L Newsletter - April 2005

It's April Fools Day! Just kidding, NO really! Yup, April 1st. Last month I sent out an e-card to everyone. It features a picture of me from when I was about 4 years old, and one of my remastered songs from the "Signature EP". I hope you got it! In my last newsletter, I mentioned I'd be giving you access to a music video by BobVision and IndieWatch (my company). Eric DeLuca's video is not available yet though. He's releasing the video at a "Video Release Party" soon. Once it is publically available you will definitely get to see it! Thanks for your patience.

On that note, I just bought a Pentax Optio mx4 digital camera/camcorder and also a Panasonic PV-GS12 camcorder. I'm taking one of these back, but trying them out for a few days. These look like fun gadgets. If you know anything about cameras, feel free to send your opinion on which one I should keep!

Studio time has been on hold for the past 3 weeks, although Jim (Producer / Bass player) is working on things on his own. I've been so busy with gigs, and 3000 Records (my record label), that I don't even have time to sleep anymore. I'd say I'm probably working somewhere around 70 hours a week right now. Then again, when I'm not working, I'm still working on something or another thing.

In Mid-March, I got to play a duo gig at Hamlin Pub with Kevin Wilson. We totally joked around with the audience most of the night. I felt kind of like a stand up comedian. Usually I am pretty serious when I play. This is the second duo gig I played ever. A few months back I played my first duo gig with S.G. Wood. This second duo gig went very well. Kevin's girlfriend Julie also sang many songs. She has a voice of a seasoned Artist, and also playes piano. Kevin and Julie are in a band together called Everything 19. This Month's Lesson: Do what your heart tells you, and don't let fears stop you. When I started out playing music as a career, people would ask me, "how?" That question "how?", is a scary one. It brings up a-lot of fear. How in the world can one sum up an answer to that when starting out in one of the toughest businesses. My answer was "I don't know", and I still don't know. BUT I can tell you in hindsight how things worked out to date! Ask me later how I'm going to pull of finishing a $10,000 budgeted full length CD, yet alone sell even 1000 copies to break even. In addition to that, ask me how I'm going to pay for a tour around the country for part of the year. I just don't know. I'll tell you in hindsight though. I get scared to think about "how?", but when I look back, I think I've come pretty far (not to brag). 3 years ago I started off in this business making $50 a week at a pizza place, then my car blew a head gasket (that's not good). 2 years ago I was driving a 1973 station wagon, left for a 25 day tour of the US with $350 in my pocket, a demo sounding CD, my beat up guitar, and a calling card. It's cool to look back on that, and realize how things change when you just move forward without letting fears stop you. I currently drive a Dodge Durango fully loaded, have a mobile phone with a toll free number, laptop computer with wireless internet, digital camera, digital video camera, voice memo (song) recorder, a full band of professional studio musicians, a professional quality new full length CD well on it's way, a packed calendar with gigs, and a bunch of awesome newsletter subscribers (yes you [[firstname]]), and the same (even more) beat up old guitar. Oh, and a beautiful girlfriend! AND No I'm not bragging, I think God can give anything to anyone at any time (or take it away).. OK ..maybe I am bragging about my girlfriend just a wee bit.

Sorry. I thought for sure somebody would get it. BUT, I would like to offer those of you who tried, a chance to redeem yourselves. Well, as I type this, I'm still up after working all night on something called the FREE Music Report. I currently send it to over 200 music industry contacts (DJs, Writers, etc..) each month. Now, I'm getting ready to go visit my Dad in the hospital. He has MS (Multiple Sclerosis), and also just had another stroke this week. I'd like to ask you all to please pray for him, and my family. Right now, he's doing ok, able to move around a bit, but not able to talk much at all. I appreciate the prayers, and thank you.

Later this morning, I'll be heading to the Renesaince Center for a gig. Thank God I can go take a nap at my Grandparent's house in Detroit later this afternoon. Deron 5L Newsletter - March 2005

Recently I came to the realization that..when I write this newletter I often decide at the beginning, what mood I will present. Most often it's enthusiastic, and exciting, sometimes it has a serious tone. It's funny, because it seems that is what I also do each morning. What I'm saying is that how I feel is usually pre-determined by what I choose to "be". So, let me start off right here.. I'll be "free".. free to speak my mind, free to express myself, free to write this newletter however I want..

Wow, I have no idea what to write now..Hmm.

I guess I will mention that I bumped into two members of a band I used to be part of back in college.. The drummer Matt and bass player Mark were hanging out at Now & Zen Cafe for open mic on a Thursday when I was there. Matt also bumped into the lead guitarist too (John), while in Lansing earlier that same afternoon. This was a crazy coincidence since Matt lives in Macomb Twp., and John lives in Grand Rapids.. I talked with John on the phone that evening from Now & Zen. So, after many many years, all 4 of us were suddenly in touch. It was nice to get an update on everyone, and get to hang out for a bit. I'm sure I'll be seeing Mark and Matt a bit more often since they both live nearby, and go to the same open mic as I do :) Oh, by the way, our band was called "Lady Elain" and we played all around Kalamazoo and Grand Rapids in 1996 - 1997. Fun times!

This past Sunday I got to assist in the filming of a music video for Eric Deluca. Last year I started a small company called IndieWatch Productions, in partnership with BobVision Productions. This recent video was sooooo much fun to be a part of. There were many different scenes filmed indoors, and outdoors.. from a trailer.. to a coffee house.. to a park by a river.. to a scene by a mailbox.. plus some more indoor scenes. The actress in this video actually cried on que. Holy Guacamoli!? How do you do that. I'll tell you what!! Next month, when it's completed I'll let you see it ;)

The music for my CD coming out is coming along. Jim has been busting his butt on the bass tracks, plus mixdown and production. Desi has been in the studio every weekend, and recording multiple lead guitar tracks on each song. I got a preview of a few of the songs that are close to being done. Still, I'm probably going to re-do vocals on most of the songs.

In Mid-February, I got to play a duo gig with S.G. Wood. As mentioned many times before, he is practically a mentor to me. We played for a few hundred people at Hamlin Pub in Lake Orion. There were people even dancing in front of the stage as we played great songs from the Beatles, Van Morrison and more. We called ourselves the "Cab Drivers" that night, just to give ourselves a fun name. Hopefully we will get to play again as a duo in the near future.

This Month's Lesson: It's not too late to change your attitude. A few Thursday's ago I was dissapointed while playing a gig, since most of the people were not paying attention. This was in a nice lounge, and people were just talking a-lot, not clapping. On my last break I spent a few moments alone..and decided to change my attitude. Then I applied something I learned at a seminar at Landmark Education. I said "I am creating the possibility of being enthusiastic, and fun", and I prayed about this for a few seconds. Then I went back to play my last set. After finishing the gig an hour later, I felt pretty good. Then this guy walked up and said that he really liked how I performed. He said "I'm the manager of Champps in Shelby Twp.". Then he said he wanted to have live music there, even though they don't currently have live music there. He told me that he was interested in hiring me for a weekly gig! That following Saturday we met up and talked for a while. I'm now booked to play at Champps every Tuesday.. I'm glad I changed my attitude that night!

Besides this new Tuesday night gig at Champps, I'm also playing at Hatchy's this Thursday where I'll also be hosting open mic that night too! Many people like to ask me how many subscribers I have for this newsletter. Well to I have collected thousands of email addresses from over 2000 people I've met personally at shows, but out of those only about 420 are on my list..since I switched to a more professional company to handle my newsletters. The company required that everyone re-join this newsletter, and unfortunately many did not re-join. BUT it's not about quantity. I'd rather have 10 people who actually read this, than 100 people who we're subscribed but did not read it. Know what I'm sayin! So..thank you for reading my friend!

Deron 5L Newsletter - February 2005

Working full time as a musician is different than many might realize. For example, even putting this newsletter together, and building a subscribers list, is a part-time job in itself. Don't get me wrong, I really like what I do, especially sending out this newsletter!

There are many other things that I do besides simply play music. I spend much of my time pushing forward on an upcoming CD, booking gigs at current venues, finding new places to play, researching and planning for my tour coming up, maintaining my guitar and equipment (and truck), keeping my web site updated, promoting up and coming shows & events, studying the music business through books and audio (and mentors), and making sure I have bills paid in a timely manner, just like any independent business owner, plus many other miscellaneous tasks.

Fortunately I don't have any huge loans out there or anything like that tied to my business. It's just that most of what I make goes back into the business. It's a viscous cycle that I hope will get easier over time. Still, my ultimate goal is to turn this business or I should say "career" into something great. By great, I mean the purpose of being great though positive results by sharing my music.

Recently I played at an open mic and got recorded live, then the host (Rich) posted the songs online. I wanted to make this really neat live recording available. The recording quality is very nice. This Month's Lesson: Something I am just learning is just how important it is to go out there and play, and sell CDs at shows. It's called "Tour Distribution". It is the best way to sell music as an independent Musician. I really like playing coffee houses, and venues where I play all originals. It gives me a chance to really do what I like doing, sell CDs, and share my music.

Another big thing I learned not too long ago was just how important it is to connect with each person at gigs, and stay in touch. That's why this newsletter is such a nice thing to have as a Musician. By the way thanks so much for reading.

Thanks for checking out those links. I can't help but feel helpless to making any real impact in the disaster that happened in Asia and even as far as Africa. I was thinking that if every employed US citizen gave something (even $5/$25/$100 or more) there could be billions of dollars donated. Not to not mention.. it's tax deductable.

Well, I wrote this next part of my newsletter earlier this month so I am attaching it below.

I want you to know that you are a valuable link to my success as a musician. Every newsletter subscriber (you) allows me to keep in touch inexpensively. This is valuable as an independent Artist. As a matter of fact a newsletter is probably the most valuable tool any independent musician can have, for long term success.

December was a difficult month for me. A close friend to my mom, and fan, passed away on Dec. 10th. Her name was Alice and she was a wonderful lady, who I am greatful to have known. May God bless her family, and every one of us who will miss her.
Well, it's kind of hard to keep writing after that announcement. I guess we all leave this planet at some point, I mean, it's a fact.. we all will someday. This new year gives so much opportunity to make positive changes in life.

There are many positive things in the works. "The Simple Life" CD currently in progress will have some awesome lead guitar tracks. Desi Serna will be playing lead guitar on the CD. He is a gifted guitar player who is truly an expert at what he does in my opinion. Recently he published a book on "How To Make Money Teaching Guitar". I think that is so cool! We will be in the studio throughout January, and February.. possibly March. The way I met Desi was after a gig on St. Patrick's Day last year. He was performing right after me, and we crossed paths very briefly. While looking for a lead guitarist, Desi happened to contact me about playing on the CD! If I held auditions and interviewed dozens or even 100's guitarists, I don't think I could have found a better match than this. Things just worked out somehow. I'm looking forward to getting in the studio a.s.a.p.

Well, I've been working very hard on different things. Booking gigs has become a priority lately so I'm starting to fill my calendar much more. Recently I started playing at some brand new places including Hatchy's in downtown Utica, and Chubby's in Utica (on M59). These are very cool places, with a fantastic atmosphere.

I'll also be playing as a Duo with some local musicians including Mark Reitenga, and various shows with Ken Miller at the new Hamlin Pub in Shelby Twp., and their Lake Orion location. If you would like to see a performance with two guitars, harmonies, playing many different cover songs, then this is for you! These shows are also listed on the calendar online.
A cool thing happened last month.. MTV contacted 3000 Records last month and requested music from the Bands & Artists I've worked with. The music is being considered for various reality shows like "Cribs", "Diary", "True Life", "High School Stories," and much, much more.

Thanks for clicking to read my "Blog". This will be a continuation of the "Deron 5L Newsletter" established in 2002 with over 1600 subscribers. Each month I will post my newsletter under the new title "The Life Of A Musician" since that is exactly what this newsletter is about!

Here goes.. Hmmm.. November proved to be a busy month, but not from playing gigs. I've been much busier with my record company. "Radio Now! Volume 2" was shipped back from the manufacuturer a few weeks back. Volume 3 is already getting mastered at the studio, so the compilations I have been putting together are moving along quickly. I have some new pics online of my truck. My old car "Superwagon" was donated as you might already know. The engine has been bought by a local car fanatic. He is putting the engine in his 1970 something Dodge Dart. Zooooooooom Swoooshh zzzzzzzzz. That thing is gonna fly.
Well, I really need to get on the telephono and book some gigs. It's hard booking my own gigs sometimes. I just wanna go play the gigs, not do anything else like booking, promoting, web site maintenance, etc.. Ahh, but fortunately I'm not bad at doing those things. I'll be calling some new places too. I hope to have a really packed schedule for early 2005.
Don't hold your breath.. It looks like my CD is going to take awhile to finish, unfortunately. The studio I record at has been invaded by inspectors.. So the owner (Jim) needs to pay a bunch of fines, and fix things up to standard regulations. I'm hoping to finish the recording (all instruments) for this CD through January and February. My parts are almost done (vocals, percussion, keyboards, rhythm guitar). Jay R, the drummer got his parts done practically overnight. Mostly, the Bass guitar (played by Jim) just needs to be recorded, along with Lead guitar (To be decided). Hopefully I will get to release this CD sometime in May.
I have two up close & personal shows coming up. On Saturday, Dec. 4th, I'll be playing at xhedos Cafe, Ferndale, MI (with Rock Band "Collision Six")! On Saturday Dec. 18th, I'll be playing at Trixie's, Roseville, MI. I'll be playing newer material, so you will have a chance to hear stuff you never heard! I'm still thinking about Thanksgiving. YUM, mmmMMM, the food was amazing. There were no left overs available to take home as usual :( My Aunt & Uncle keep them. Kinda sucks. I'll have to make a trip to Boston Market or something, and get some stuffing and mashed pototoes. I've been craving that.
